Family Updates
This month we allowed our families to shout out their latest achievements. Small or large, we celebrate together. It has been a tough year and our kids are proving their resilience!
Bentley
Mandy says her son, Bentley (3rd grade) has come a long way in the last year! He is doing amazing in school and enjoys driving cage karts. He is placing in the top 5!
Dayshia
Dayshia (age 11) has started making and selling Christmas ornaments to make some money for gift giving. Her former teacher highered her to teach a class for her kids to make ornaments. That will happen later this month and Dayshia is really looking forward to it!
Gavin
Gavin (2nd grade) started learning Tang Soo Do (Korean karate) this year. This was the first ever successful group class he has been able to participate in without an aid. Just before the latest freeze (COVID), he earned his first stripe on his belt for learning movements and their names.
Haylee
Carrie is very proud of her daughter, Haylee! (age 8) She has accomplished learning how to read!
Jayme
has her apartment all decorated for Christmas!!
Kiki
Katie says that Kiki has learned to correctly sign "yes"! For more than 8 years she has been signing "yes" her own way, but Katie and the rest of the family have persisted in modling it correctly for her. Something just clicked for her and she has recently adjusted to the correct sign without any prompting! She has been using the correct sign consistently which is huge because of her fine motor delay. Katie wants everyone to know that persistence is the key. You can follow Kiki's story by asking Katie Thompson for the link.
Landon
Brandi has been teaching Landon (age 3) different ways to communicate. His biggest accomplishment is learning more signs and words!!
Sophia
Candace says that when the pandemic hit, they attempted distance learning. Under those circumstances they missed having Sophia (age 8) evaluated for speech. They then started Connections Academy in September and she has kept her grade at 97%! Sophia loves the new schedule. Even with the ups and downs she fights through it! She started the year unable to read and now can read simple sentences and books!
